COLLECTIONSTATION.COM LAUNCHES BETA OF A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR COLLECTORS
Orlando, FL, July 21, 2008 – CollectionStation, a social network for collectors, today announced the public beta launch of its Web site, CollectionStation.com (http://www.collectionstation.com/). Beginning today, collectors can go to CollectionStation.com to catalog, showcase, value, sell, and trade their collectibles with others that have the same interests.
“Today, CollectionStation is crossing a milestone in its mission to help collectors manage their collections,” said Steve Comenzo, president & founder of CollectionStation. “CollectionStation recognizes that a collectors net worth includes valuable collectibles, and our goal is to help maximize those values. CollectionStation.com was created for the simple need to catalog and value my own personal collection for insurance purposes. Because many collectors collect different things, we wanted to provide a single resource that would provide tools and services just for collectors.”
On CollectionStation.com, users can catalog what they have and want. What makes CollectionStation unique is if the category does not exist, the user can create it themselves so they may add what they have and want to the master database. “Anything could be considered a collectible so we had to develop a proprietary system that would allow users to database any type of collectible and a way to catalog them into different collections for inventory and orginizational purposes,” said Gavin Roberts, chief technical officer of CollectionStation. “Collectors are passionate about what they collect and we believe that if we gave them the ability to contribute their expertise, the entire community would benefit from it. Once a user has added a collectible to a category, everyone else can then catalog it to their own have or want collection very quickly and easily.”
CollectionStation also allows users to create their own Groups and Blog on the things they collect. Another great feature is, "Friends Feeds" which provides the abillity to keep track of all of your friends and what they are collecting. “We realized that CollectionStation would make a great social network as many collectors like to showcase pictures of their collections and blog about their latest finds,” said Comenzo. CollectionStation has partnered with eBay to generate marketplace values on their collectibles. “eBay is a great resource to determine a fair marketplace value on collectibles. They are the world’s biggest marketplace and on CollectionStation, you can search for collectibles that have sold, as far back as two years to determine their value,” said Roberts. Once the collectibles have been cataloged, the user will also have a value of their entire collection. When the user is ready to sell their collectibles, CollectionStation provides a quick and easy way list them to sell on eBay. “There is no need to re-type the collectibles details, CollectionStation will do it for you,” said Roberts. Users are able to trade their collectibles with other CollectionStation users just as easy with their own dedicated trading system. If you have something and another collector wants it, they can negotiate a trade. Users have the option to link their eBay feedback to their CollectionStation account so they have an idea of a users history. “It gives users a level of trust,” said Roberts.
ABOUT COLLECTIONSTATION
CollectionStation is an online social network that allows collectors to catalog, showcase, value, sell, and trade their collectibles. CollectionStation was founded in April 2006 by CollectionStation, Inc. and is operated independently by a dedicated team with offices in Orlando and the UK.
I\'ve been super busy over the last few months with life in general (work, family, the new house and all of the remodeling that I\'ve had to do), and though I\'ve known about Collection Station for a while now, I haven\'t been able to play around as much as I\'d like. So... I\'m going to really be giving it a try now (time permitting), and I\'ll be fiddling with as many features as I can.
The concept behind this site seemed like a brilliant one from the first time that Mr. Comenzo explained it to me, and though I\'m somewhat overwhelmed by the idea of filling up the void with information, it really is kind of exciting to see how something like this might work out.
