CollectionStation (beta) v2 Coming Soon
Posted on October 09, 2008 at 12:17 AM by CollectionStation
Since our soft beta launch, we discovered some issues (hence beta) and have been hard at work on the next version (v2). The biggest change will be addressing the slow load time on some of the collectibles category pages as we impletement a caching system and have optimized the amount of queries being called. Another words, faster loading of pages. Most of the changes are behind the scenes; however, there are a few front-end changes. The one we are most excited about is a much faster and easier way to catalog your collectibles. We'll reveal more details as the time nears.
Keep Up with Your Friends and their Collections
Posted on September 24, 2008 at 11:54 AM by CollectionStation
Did you know CollectionStation has a "Friends Feeds" that lets you can keep up up with them and their collections? Friends Feeds highlights what's happening in your social circle of friends. Another words, if John and Bob are friends and Bob adds something new to his collection, reviews a new collectible, rates one, etc., CollectionStation will display it in the "MyStation Friends Feeds "section. So the more friends you add, the more feeds will display and his information could be useful in a number of different ways.

You can also select the amount of feeds that are display as well. For those concerned about privacy, Friends Feeds only displays information that was already publicly available. If you choose to change your privacy settings (such as making your profile private), then those feeds would no longer appear.

Have Fun!

Friends
Posted on August 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM by CollectionStation
Friends are a huge part of any social network and CollectionStation has made it so you can keep up with your friends. When you become friends with another collector, your MyStation page will show a section called, "Friends Feeds" where it will show a variety of actions your friends have done. These actions can be adjusted via the "Manage" link that is found on the Friends Feeds section. Such actions include what collectibles have cataloged, reviewed, selling, trading, and others. This is useful in a number of ways. For example, you and John Doe are friends and John has went out picked up several new Star Wars action figures that were just released. He didn't get all of them so he puts the ones he didn't get on his Want list. You see this action on your MyStation Friends Feeds page and the next day you find them. You pick them up and now you have something to trade with John for something you need.

CollectionStation respects your privacy and we offer a number of privacy settings for those that don't want participate in the Friends Feeds. So start sending Friend requests and inviting Friends that are not yet registered.

CollectionStation.com Beta Officially Launches!
Posted on July 22, 2008 at 06:30 PM by CollectionStation
It's been a long time coming but we here at CollectionStation.com are proud to say we are launching the beta version of the site! Below is the press-release that went out today:

COLLECTIONSTATION.COM LAUNCHES BETA OF A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR COLLECTORS

Orlando, FL, July 21, 2008 – CollectionStation, a social network for collectors, today announced the public beta launch of its Web site, CollectionStation.com (http://www.collectionstation.com/). Beginning today, collectors can go to CollectionStation.com to catalog, showcase, value, sell, and trade their collectibles with others that have the same interests.

“Today, CollectionStation is crossing a milestone in its mission to help collectors manage their collections,” said Steve Comenzo, president & founder of CollectionStation. “CollectionStation recognizes that a collectors net worth includes valuable collectibles, and our goal is to help maximize those values. CollectionStation.com was created for the simple need to catalog and value my own personal collection for insurance purposes. Because many collectors collect different things, we wanted to provide a single resource that would provide tools and services just for collectors.”

On CollectionStation.com, users can catalog what they have and want. What makes CollectionStation unique is if the category does not exist, the user can create it themselves so they may add what they have and want to the master database. “Anything could be considered a collectible so we had to develop a proprietary system that would allow users to database any type of collectible and a way to catalog them into different collections for inventory and orginizational purposes,” said Gavin Roberts, chief technical officer of CollectionStation. “Collectors are passionate about what they collect and we believe that if we gave them the ability to contribute their expertise, the entire community would benefit from it. Once a user has added a collectible to a category, everyone else can then catalog it to their own have or want collection very quickly and easily.”

CollectionStation also allows users to create their own Groups and Blog on the things they collect. Another great feature is, "Friends Feeds" which provides the abillity to keep track of all of your friends and what they are collecting. “We realized that CollectionStation would make a great social network as many collectors like to showcase pictures of their collections and blog about their latest finds,” said Comenzo. CollectionStation has partnered with eBay to generate marketplace values on their collectibles. “eBay is a great resource to determine a fair marketplace value on collectibles. They are the world’s biggest marketplace and on CollectionStation, you can search for collectibles that have sold, as far back as two years to determine their value,” said Roberts. Once the collectibles have been cataloged, the user will also have a value of their entire collection. When the user is ready to sell their collectibles, CollectionStation provides a quick and easy way list them to sell on eBay. “There is no need to re-type the collectibles details, CollectionStation will do it for you,” said Roberts. Users are able to trade their collectibles with other CollectionStation users just as easy with their own dedicated trading system. If you have something and another collector wants it, they can negotiate a trade. Users have the option to link their eBay feedback to their CollectionStation account so they have an idea of a users history. “It gives users a level of trust,” said Roberts.
